Biography of Isao Machii
Isao Machii, a Japanese master of iaido, is often referred to as the "modern ninja" and is renowned for his speed and skill with a sword. Iaido, an ancient Japanese martial art, has largely become a thing of the past, with samurais, ninjas, and shoguns existing primarily in the realm of cinema. However, Isao continues to dedicate himself to daily rigorous training, honing his swordsmanship to perfection.
Born in 1973 in Japan, Isao Machii developed a passion for martial arts from a young age. Today, he is a master of iaido and is recognized as the fastest swordsman not only in Japan but also in the world. His exceptional abilities have been officially acknowledged multiple times by the Guinness World Records. In 2011, during a Guinness World Records show in Italy, Machii demonstrated his samurai-like speed by slicing through bundles of soaked straw, known as "somon," which were placed on bamboo poles. This act is said to simulate the force required to decapitate a human head. In just three minutes, Machii delivered 252 sword strikes to the bundles, showcasing his remarkable speed and precision. (It should be noted that Isao is more than capable of achieving over 250 decapitations in the same timeframe).
Isao Machii holds several Guinness certificates, one of which is particularly noteworthy. In 2013, Machii successfully sliced a plastic bullet traveling at a speed of 300 km/h in mid-air with his sword. According to the rules of iaido, the sword can only be drawn at the last moment, with the blade concealed until the decisive moment when it is swiftly unsheathed. This is precisely how Machii managed to slice the bullet, leaving spectators in awe. He appeared to be standing with his hand on the sword's hilt and then executed a lightning-fast movement, resulting in the plastic bullet meeting the blade, producing a distinct sound.
Machii has also demonstrated his extraordinary skills by slicing a tennis ball in mid-air. Today, he has his own school, where he serves as a master, passing on his rare expertise to eager students.
