Shahinda Baig Biography
Shahinda Baig, popularly known as Baby Guddu is a former child artist of 1980s. Perhaps the most
popular child female star of 1980s, she has also appeared in many television ads shown on Doordarshan
in the mid 1980s. Colgate Toothpaste advertisement on Doordarshan is probably her first appearance on
small screen. “Daadi maa daadi maa, pyari pyari daadi maa” the popular song of the movie, Ghar Ghar
Ki Kahani (1988) was pictured on her. Baby Guddu was seen buttering her grandmother Shashikala to
have her meals in the song picturation. She is the cutest female child artist on Indian screen, who ruled
millions of hearts in the 1980s. Baby Guddu was last seen in 1991 movie, Inspector Dhanush. Currently
she is settled in Dubai, working with Emirates Airlines as an air hostess. Samundar (1986) is her most
prominent role, in which she shared screen space with actor Sunny Deol.
Baby Guddu is the daughter of the film producer-director M. M. Baig. Yet she stayed away from
limelight. Her real name is Shahinda Baig. But her mother called her Guddu. One day she was noticed
by actress Kiran juneja. She encouraged Baig to let her go and work in Bollywood films. He was not sure
how it can happen. So Kiran formally helped him and very soon Baby Guddu was featured in many ads at
the age of 3. She was seen in the ads of tooth pastes, soft drinks etc.
Paap aur Punya, released in 1984 was one of her earliest appearances. She was not just a cute face,
but a talented actress who portrayed varying roles throughout 1980s. Aaj ka arjun, Amrit, Aakhir Kyon,
Samundar, Ghar ghar ki kahani and Khudrat ka kanoon are some of her noted Bollywood movies. She
was seen in cover pages of many leading magazines and also gave interviews. Rajesh khanna was so
impressed by her talent that he made a telefilm titled, Aada sach Aada Jhoot, in which Baby Guddu
played the title role. After the age of 11, she was not seen in any movies.
