The grand dame of Manila’s High Society is dead: Long live, Imelda Cojuangco

Imelda ?Meldy? Cojuangco, the well-known philantrophist widow of the late businessman and PLDT pioneer Ramon Cojunagco, died Tuesday.

A mother of five children which included Bilyonaryo Tonyboy Cojuangco, Imelda was rushed to the hospital after having trouble breathing but did not survive.

Imelda was known as the grand dame of Manila?s high society coming from a wealthy Fillipino Chinese family. She loved raising funds for nonprofits involving the poor, children, music and art.

She was the founding chairman of several foundations, one of which awards scholarships to chosen students of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.

Apart from Tony Boy, Imelda?s other children are Ramon (also known as Choy), Miguel (?Mikey), Trinidad Cojuangco-Yulo (Ningning), and Maria Victoria (Mavie). A grandmother of 15, Imelda was known for deep affection for children.

A Marian devotee, Imelda believed it was her faith and the prayers of her family and friends that helped her survive a near fatal aneurism in 2005.

She was a fashion icon and a close friend of former first lady Imelda Marcos. She was one of the principal sponsors in the of Irene Marcos and Greggy Araneta.

Despite her enormous wealth, she was very thankful the most for having a ?very good, very loyal and very loving husband? and well raised children, Imelda said in one of her interviews.
